A Gift for Grandma (Homemade/DIY Lavender Bath Goodies)

It's been slow on the blog lately as my mom has been in town for Caterpillar's 1st birthday. Plus, her birthday was 3 days before his, so we got to celebrate her birthday too! Wild Thing has loved all the birthday excitement - this morning when he saw this photo of his birthday he started spontaneously singing his own version of a birthday song, and then asked for cake for breakfast. (We had pancakes instead).

For G-Ma, we made a card by recycling a birthday card my grandmother had sent me and some other cards that were cut up and glued on to the original card. We then made a Lavender Body Scrub and a couple of Lavender Oat mixes for the bath tub.

For the lavender body scrub, we mixed:
1/3 cup sea salt (epsom salt would also work)
5 TBS olive oil
6 squirts (an important unit of measurement    according to Wild Thing) of Dr. Bronner's Lavender Pure Castile Soap (Lavender Oil would work, but it cost about $12 for the small bottle, while Dr. Bonner's was $3, so I bought it instead)
7-8 buds from Lavender flowers (pulled off the stem)
1-2 sprigs of rosemary (pulled off the stem)

Lavender salt scrub mix

We also made 2 different Lavender-Oat Bath Options. For the first we used: 1/3 cup of rolled oats, 1 tsp cornmeal and buds from about 10 lavender flowers. For the second we used: 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1 bag of chamomille tea (just the chamomille - we cut open the bag and dumped in the contents in the bowl), about 3 sprigs of rosemary and 7-10 springs of lavender (buds only of course). Wild Thing also decided to add a few shakes of salt.

We put the different mixtures in glass containers that we had and then added ribbons and contact paper covered with lavender buds (I didn't get a photo after we decorated the jars). After we finished the official gifts, Wild Thing had fun mixing up some more ingredients while I washed dishes!

He also took some photos himself during the process -- this is his photo of the lavender and rosemary.
